Jack Absolute Flies Again

When: 12th July 2022 Where: National Theatre, London Writers: Richard Bean and Oliver Chris Director: Emily Burns (Minor Spoilers ahead) As you would expect from the National, 'Jack Absolute Flies Again' is brilliant! It's an absolute treat! This is a brand new play, based on 'The Rivals' by Richard Brinsley Sheridan, but is destined to become a classic in it's own right. The comedy is perfectly written and executed, it is classic comedy with witty punchlines, humourous misunderstandings and fabulously unique characters each hilarious in their own way. My favourite character was the maid. As in all comedies she plays the key role of mixing up letters and causing issues, but in this play she is totally aware of this. In one moment she turns to Jack and tells him to stop worrying about not getting the girl, because he'll get her in the end as that's how these plays work. In another when a letter magically appears in the hands of another character she simpl...

The Glass Menagerie

When: 8th July 2022 Where: Duke of York's Theatre, London Writer: Tennesse Williams Director: Jeremy Herrin I enjoyed this play although there was nothing extraordinary about it. Amy Adams was advertised as the lead actress playing the character of Amanda Wingfield, it's her name and face that sit on the front of the programme. However, I felt she was probably the weakest performer on stage. There was something a little off about her portrayal of the character, and I couldn't help but feel the casting was wrong. For a start I thought she was possibly too young to play the character, the way she spoke about her youth and the way in which she spoke to her children to me implied she was more mature than the character portrayed by Adams. I also felt that the tone of her performance was not varied enough, despite multiple moments of varying emotions it never seemed to fully take off, and it left me needing more. This was especially noticeable when compared to the actors around...

Dear Evan Hansen

When: 29th June 2022 (Matinee) Where: Noel Coward Theatre, London Writer:  Steven Levenson Director: Michael Greif I want to start off by saying that I understand how my opinons on this show could be quite controversial, but I hope to explain them in a way that people understand why. I still massively respect the amount of work and effort everyone invloved has put into this production and I do not believe anyone is bad at their job. Simply for me I just didn't enjoy Dear Evan Hansen as much as the majority of people who have seen it did.  I used to be massively into Musicals, I didn't go to the theatre a lot and when I did it would be a mainstream musical. My mum was never a big fan of musicals and would always tell me plays were better, and after seeing this I think I have to say I agree. For me Dear Evan Hansen just didn't work.  I have listened to the soundtrack in the past and I don't dislike the music, but its never been one I was desperate to see, there's al...
